Additional learning support
At our school, we ensure every student is ready to learn. We support students with disability and additional learning needs so they can take part in all areas of school life. You do not need a formal diagnosis for your child to receive support in a mainstream class. Support can begin at any stage of school.
Support that fits your child's needs
Some students need extra support to feel confident and do their best at school. We work closely with families to make support plans and adjustments that suits each child’s needs.
Additional learning support can include:
- teachers and support staff working together with families (and students, if needed)
- specialist support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
- providing tailored programs to help high potential and gifted students with their advanced learning needs
-
small group tutoring to provide targeted literacy and numeracy support for students
-
regular check-ins to review and update the planned supports
-
changes to the classrooms:
- accessible classrooms
- assistive technology
- instructional resources
-
extra guidance, simpler content or different focus during lessons
-
assessment adjustments:
- more time
- simpler language
- breaks during tasks
- different ways to complete a task (e.g. oral presentations instead of written tasks).
We know when a student needs help when:
- teachers notice changes in learning or behaviour
- reviewing assessment results and learning progress
- parents and carers raise concerns or ask for support.
Adjustments are planned with parents and carers. They are reviewed regularly and changed when needed. If you think your child may need extra help, contact us.

Small Group Literacy Tuition
Small-group literacy tuition is provided by Learning and Support Teachers (LaSTs) and School Learning and Support Officers (SLSOs). Using evidence-based teaching practices, sessions focus on strengthening students’ foundational reading and spelling skills.
Students take part in structured literacy lessons that include explicit teaching, guided practice and a variety of engaging activities. These activities help students develop important skills such as word recognition, decoding, reading fluency and spelling. Learning builds on students’ existing knowledge, with regular opportunities to practise and reinforce new skills.
Students’ progress is monitored through regular assessment, helping staff identify areas for further development and adjust instruction as needed. This ongoing process helps students strengthen their reading and spelling skills, supporting their continued progress and ability to engage successfully with their learning.
SPARC Tuition
Tuition within the Student Progress and Re-engagement Centre (SPARC) provides inclusive learning support for students who benefit from additional assistance to strengthen their skills and engage with their learning. The program aims to address learning challenges, build on individual strengths and help students experience success in a positive and encouraging environment.
Delivered by specialised Learning and Support Teachers, SPARC provides small-group tuition in a safe and supportive setting. Students receive assistance with literacy, numeracy, assessment tasks and other learning activities, depending on their individual learning needs. This allows students to work at an appropriate pace, receive guidance and feedback, and develop their understanding of key concepts.
Sessions incorporate hands-on and interactive learning experiences that encourage students to participate, practise new skills and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways. Through these experiences, students are supported to develop greater independence, recognise their strengths and work towards their learning goals.
SPARC aims to empower every student to stretch, grow and achieve by providing opportunities to develop the skills and confidence needed to participate in learning and experience success at school.
