Dance

The study of dance centres on the three practices of performance, composition and appreciation of dance as works of art.

Students learn both movement principles and stylised techniques, and they learn through both problem-solving and directed teaching. The development of creativity, imagination and individuality is emphasised equally with knowledge of theatre dance.

Dance in Stages 4 and 5

All students in year 8 study a semester of Dance where they learn about the origin of the Hip-Hop Dance Style and develop movement and performance skills

All 9 and 10 students at the school can study dance as an elective subject. They discover the different styles of dance and present their knowledge in a number of forms including performance, composition, appreciation and dance film.

Dance in Stage 6

Stage 6 students are able to study dance as a unique artform in which the body is the instrument for non-verbal communication and expression. The study of dance as an artform within the school environment is of special educational value to the students' total development, as it offers students new ways of learning through the performance, composition and appreciation of dance.

Dance is a 2 unit course which leads to an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
