Principal's Welcome

WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL

Welcome!

It is with great pleasure and privilege, that I welcome you to Nowra High School, a comprehensive co-educational school, proudly serving our local community and public education for 70 years.

The Black Cockatoo: significantly sacred to our local Aboriginal community and serving as our school Mascot and namesake offers much that we can learn from as a school community. Forged in fire – these glorious and graceful birds are known for their intelligence, communication skills, curiosity, self-expression, wisdom, socialisation, and freedom. Situated on Aboriginal land and central to a vibrant, aspirational and caring community our school is concentrating on nurturing the conditions where we foster inspired, creative, empathetic, culturally aware, and resilient young people who are buoyed by a strong sense of identity and belonging with the confidence and opportunity to pursue pathways beyond the school gate.

We pride ourselves on an outstanding record of academic, cultural, creative, social, leadership and sporting success. Students can feel confident that every learning and extra-curricular activity provides an opportunity for enrichment and that we are encouraging student passion through pathways to success that are personalised to reflect student’s interest and need. Our highly professional teaching staff are dedicated to being classroom innovators and ensuring our students can learn and grow.

We embrace our diverse community. At our school students from a range of backgrounds connect and collaborate to create a vibrant school that values and celebrates individuals and their communities. Particularly we acknowledge and pay our respect to our local Aboriginal communities, elders, families and the emerging leaders in our classrooms as important contributors to our school’s history and the rich tapestry of culture that is synonymous with Nowra and our surrounds. I would also like to acknowledge our unique Tibetan community that further adds to the distinct richness of our school.

We are strongly committed to supporting students’ sense of wellbeing and ensure that they feel a sense of belonging to our school and more broadly our community and the communities of their own choosing. Our dedicated wellbeing team inclusive of our Head Teacher Wellbeing, Student Support Office, Defence Mentor, Aboriginal Education Officer, Wellbeing Officer and Year Advisors are collaborating to work alongside students and families to ensure every student is supported to thrive in our school.

We love building the important relationships between our staff, students, parents, and broader community to promote an agenda where success is modelled, supported, and leveraged so that all students can experience success and be celebrated.

Nowra High School is your local school of choice, and we welcome you to make contact with us to discuss how we can work with your family and support your child.

Kindest Regards,

Renee Gilbert
